Gov-Enhance Africa’s VP & Dir. of Publications Speaks at London School of Economics Africa Summit

Gov-Enhance Africa’s Vice-President & Director of Publications, Shingirai Mtero, will be an Expert Speaker at the London School of Economics Africa Summit. The summit, which is taking place from April 22 – 23, 2016 is an annual gathering that showcases Africa’s contributions to the world and fosters debates on the current challenges facing the continent.

The summit consists of the Research Conference and the Business Conference that take place on Day 1 and Day 2 of the summit respectively. Shingirai will be a speaker at the Research Conference. The Research Conference engages researchers, policy makers and practitioners in academic debates and practical workshops. It offers a unique opportunity to strengthen the link between academic research and policies that consider Africa’s within the global context.

In particular, Shingirai will be on the Gendered Realities And Global Responses panel, presenting her paper entitled, “Re-thinking Gender Specific Development in the post-MDG era: The case of Zimbabwe.” The paper documents the legal ambiguities and disparities relating to the Age of Consent and the practice of Early marriage in Zimbabwe. It situates the state at the centre of the gender specific development debate, arguing that structural provisions, namely, enabling legal frameworks, play a consequential role in the realisation of development goals.
